John Thomas Partain

 

 First Generation

 

 

        1.  John Thomas1 Partain, son of Charlie Partain and Elizabeth Partain, was born Fayetteville, Cleburne County, Arkansas 12/1866. 

 

       He married three times.  He married L. Z. Bell Gibbons Partain Van Buren, Arkansas, July 19, 1885.  Bell was born June 29, 1869.  L. died App. August, 1887 Shirley, Arkansas, at approximately 18 years of age.  J.T. Partain's first wife either died in childbirth or died while she was carrying their first child.  She is buried in Bradford Cemetery near Shirley, AR.  The tombstone reads "N.Z. Bell wife of J.T. Partain Born June 29, 1869.

 

       He married Julia Melinda Maxwell Partain Van Buren, Arkansas, December 25, 1887.  Julia was born November 10, 1868.  Julia was the daughter of Abner William Maxwell and Nancy Emily Treadway Maxwell.  Julia died August 20, 1907 Spiro, Oklahoma, at 38 years of age.  At 20 years of age Julia became the mother of Oliver Edward Partain January 1, 1889.  At 22 years of age Julia became the mother of John Alvin Partain March 15, 1891.  At 24 years of age Julia became the mother of Callie Myrtle Partain Ford December, 1892.  At 25 years of age Julia became the mother of Ollie Pearl Partain Gentry February 1894.  At 28 years of age Julia became the mother of William Arthur Partain Spiro, Oklahoma, December 1896.  At 29 years of age Julia became the mother of Charlie Edwin Partain Spiro, Oklahoma, April 10, 1898.  At 31 years of age Julia became the mother of Minnie Malela Partain Flynn April 13, 1900.  At 33 years of age Julia became the mother of Fletcher Monroe Partain September, 1902.  At 36 years of age Julia became the mother of Robert Dow Partain July 7, 1905.  At 38 years of age Julia became the mother of Julia Melinda Partain Pinkerton August 11, 1907.  Presented by Lanny Partain, son of Charlie Partain, son of John Thomas Partain, son of Charlie and Elizabeth Partain.  December 1999.

 

Julia Maxwell Partain

 

The following is from a hand-written story about my grandmother, Julia Maxwell Partain.  The account was written by my cousin Ola Fern Ford Speer (daughter of my aunt Callie Partain Ford). I got a copy from my cousin Flossie Evans (daughter of my uncle John Partain) who received it from Ola Fern Ford Speer.

 

"Julia Melinda Maxwell was born in Arkansas, November 1868.  Her father's name was P. S. Maxwell, who was known as "Stillman" Maxwell.  He was born in Illinois.  Her mother's name was Nancy (in some records, Emily). Treadway, of Van Buren, Arkansas.  Julia Melinda married Grandpa John Tomas Partain in December 25, 1887.  She was 19 years old and he was twenty-one years old.

 

Julia and John Tomas had ten children, 6 boys and 4 girls.  They were born in this order:

 

Oliver E. born Jan. 1, 1888. Died Oct. 19, 1966 John A. born March 5, 1891. Died Nov. 19, 1971 Calidonia Myrtle-Lee (Callie), born Dec. 16, 1893. Died April 22, 1978 William Arthur, born Dec. 6, 1894. Died July 27, 1967 Ollie, born Feb. 1896. Died 1985, buried in Spiro, Okla. Charley E. Born April 10, 1898. Died March 22, 1977 Minnie, born Aug. 1900. Died ?? buried in Spiro, Okla. Fletcher, born Sept. 1902. Died Feb. 26, 1944

 

All these children were born in Arkansas.  They left Heber Springs, Arkansas in the year of 1902. Fletcher was a three month old baby.  They moved to Spiro, Oklahoma, Indian Territory, as Oklahoma became a state in the year of 1907.  Several families traveled with them, including a Reverend Elliott, Church of Christ minister.  He preached in places along the way to Oklahoma.

 

In Morrilton, Arkansas, Grandma Julia became very ill with typhoid fever.  She and the younger children had to be left behind.  The older children went on to Spiro with Grandpa.  Later on they returned for her and the other children.

 

After Grandma and Grandpa reached Oklahoma, they had two more children:

 

Robert Dow, born July 1905 Julia Melinda, born Aug. 11, 1907

 

Grandma Julia Melinda died Aug. 20, 1907.  Baby Julia was 9 days old.

 

Grandma Julia was 38 years old.  She is buried in Spiro Cemetery."

 

 

 

       He married Etta Elliott Partain.  Her body was interred 1967 Spiro Oklahoma, Spiro Cemetery.  Etta became the mother of Ocie Theodore Partain Bokoshe, Oklahoma, October 26, 1911.  Etta became the mother of Albert Estil Partain May, 1913.  Etta's dad, a Church of Christ preacher, built a house in Heber Springs, AR

 

       At 22 years of age John became the father of Oliver Edward Partain January 1, 1889.  At 24 years of age John became the father of John Alvin Partain March 15, 1891.  At 26 years of age John became the father of Callie Myrtle Partain Ford December, 1892.  At 27 years of age John became the father of Ollie Pearl Partain Gentry February, 1894.  At 30 years of age John became the father of William Arthur Partain Spiro, Oklahoma, December, 1896.  At 31 years of age John became the father of Charlie Edwin Partain Spiro, Oklahoma, April 10, 1898.  At 33 years of age John became the father of Minnie Malela Partain Flynn April 13, 1900.  At 36 years of age John became the father of Fletcher Monroe Partain September, 1902.  At 39 years of age John became the father of Robert Dow Partain July 7, 1905.  At 41 years of age John became the father of Julia Melinda Partain Pinkerton August 11, 1907.  At 45 years of age John became the father of Ocie Theodore Partain Bokoshe, Oklahoma, October 26, 1911.  At 46 years of age John became the father of Albert Estil Partain May, 1913.  Presented by Lanny Partain, son of Charlie Partain, son of John Thomas Partain, son of Charlie and Elizabeth Partain.  December 1999.

 

John Thomas Partain

 

The following is from a hand-written story about my grandfather, John Thomas Partain.  The account was written by my cousin Ola Fern Ford Speer (daughter of my aunt Callie Partain Ford).  I got a copy from my cousin Flossie Evans (daughter of my uncle John Partain) who received it from Ola Fern Ford Speer.

 

"John Thomas (Pritchett) Partain, or "Big John" as he was often called, was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Dec. 6, 1866.  This is told in the story of Great Grandma Partain, and other things are told about him in the story of Callie Pritchett.

 

This a story told to me by my mom:

 

When John Thomas was a young man wanting to get married, he was in love with two beautiful girls. He couldn't decide which one to choose for his bride.  Every day or so, he rode his horse to see his sweethearts.  This one day, he had made up his mind he would ask one of them to marry him, but he couldn't decide which one.  So, as he rode his horse along, they came to a fork in the road. Grandpa decided he would let his horse decide which fork in th road to take.  One girl lived down one road, and the other girl lived down the other road.  So the horse chose the road and Grandpa married the girl.  Her name was Belle Gibbons.  On July 19, 1885, she and Grandpa were married.  She was 15 years old and Grandpa was 19. The marriage ended in tragedy, as she and the unborn baby both died in childbirth in August of 1886. (Some records show she and the baby both died at 4 months of the pregnancy.)

 

On December 25, 1887, Grandpa Partain married his other sweetheart, Julia Melinda Maxwell.  She was 19 years old and he was 21 years old.  They had ten children, listed in the order of birth in the story of Julia Melinda Maxwell.

 

Grandpa Partain was a Church of Christ minister. He is the first person I ever heard preach.  When I was just a small child, he preached in the schoolhouse on Sundays, where we kids all went to school during the week.  The schoolhouse was on Bokoshe Mountain.

 

Grandpa John Thomas Partain fathered 14 children in all.

 

We lived in Whitefield, Okla. when we got word that he had died.  I remember mom taking the younger children and going to the funeral.  I think they drove down with Uncle Charley.  I was old enough by then to stay home and do the housework and the cooking.  Grandpa died April 19, 1932.  He and two wives and several of his children are buried in the Spiro, Okla. Cemetery. Grandpa was 65 years old when he died."

       3.  Ocie Theodore2 Partain (John Thomas1) was born Bokoshe, Oklahoma October 26, 1911.  Ocie died June 2, 1981 Bokoshe, Oklahoma, at 69 years of age. 

 

       He married Hazel Nixon Partain Greenwood, AR, 11/8/1940.  Hazel became the mother of Charlotte Faye Partain Bokoshe, Ok, August 31. 1941.  Hazel became the mother of Dianna Sue Partain Bokoshe, OK, July 24, 1946.  Hazel became the mother of Phillip Ocie Partain Bokoshe, OK, July 31, 1952. 

 

       At 29 years of age Ocie became the father of Charlotte Faye Partain Bokoshe, Ok, August 31. 1941.  At 34 years of age Ocie became the father of Dianna Sue Partain Bokoshe, OK, July 24, 1946.  At 40 years of age Ocie became the father of Phillip Ocie Partain Bokoshe, OK, July 31, 1952.

 

       Ocie Theodore Partain and Hazel Nixon Partain had the following children:

 

           15       i. Charlotte Faye3 Partain was born Bokoshe, Ok August 31. 1941.

           16      ii. Dianna Sue Partain was born Bokoshe, OK July 24, 1946.

           17     iii. Phillip Ocie Partain was born Bokoshe, OK July 31, 1952.

  

       4.  Albert Estil2 Partain (John Thomas1) was born May, 1913. 

 

       He married Muriel Tanksley Partain.  Muriel is the daughter of Daniel Baxter Tanksley and Emily Tanksley Eoff.

 

       Albert Estil Partain and Muriel Tanksley Partain had the following child:

 

           18       i. Joe3 Partain.

  

       5.  Oliver Edward2 Partain (John Thomas1) was born January 1, 1889.  Oliver died April, 1966 at 77 years of age. 

 

       He married Fannie M. Rucker Partain January 1, 1916.  Fannie was born September 26, 1893.  At 30 years of age Fannie became the mother of Grover Sherman Partain July 5, 1924.  At 32 years of age Fannie became the mother of Charles Darman Partain July 8, 1926. 

 

       At 35 years of age Oliver became the father of Grover Sherman Partain July 5, 1924.  At 37 years of age Oliver became the father of Charles Darman Partain July 8, 1926.

 

       Oliver Edward Partain and Fannie M. Rucker Partain had the following children:

 

           19       i. Grover Sherman3 Partain was born July 5, 1924.  Grover died September 1975 at 51 years of age.

           20      ii. Charles Darman Partain was born July 8, 1926.  Charles died June 28, 1983 at 56 years of age.

  

       6.  John Alvin2 Partain (John Thomas1) was born March 15, 1891.  John died November 19, 1971 Stigler, Oklahoma, at 80 years of age. 

 

       He married Lena Ruth Watson Partain Unknown.  Lena was born March 26, 1894.  Lena died February, 1986 Stigler, Oklahoma, at 91 years of age.

 

       John Alvin Partain and Lena Ruth Watson Partain had the following children:

       7.  Callie Myrtle Partain2 Ford (John Thomas1 Partain) was born December, 1892.  Callie died April, 1978 Stigler, Oklahoma, at 85 years of age. 

 

       She married Ed Ford.

 

       Callie Myrtle Partain Ford and Ed Ford had the following children:

 

           25       i. Ola Fern Ford3 Venable Speers.  She married twice.  She married Virgil Venable.  She married Alvin Speers.

       9.  William Arthur2 Partain (John Thomas1) was born Spiro, Oklahoma December, 1896.  William died July 27, 1968 Stigler, Oklahoma, at 71 years of age. 

 

       He married Lola Vancil Partain.  Lola was born November 4, 1902.  Lola died August, 1986 Stigler, Oklahoma, at 83 years of age.  At 20 years of age Lola became the mother of Norma Lucille Partain Wade Bokoshe, OK, September 11, 1923. 

 

       At 26 years of age William became the father of Norma Lucille Partain Wade Bokoshe, OK, September 11, 1923.

 

       William Arthur Partain and Lola Vancil Partain had the following children:

 

    +      32       i. W.A. (Dub)3 Partain.

           33      ii. Gerald Wayne Partain.  Gerald died 1997 San Diego, California.

           34     iii. Leona Partain Miller.  Leona died 1997 Stigler, Oklahoma.  She married Junior Miller.

           35      iv. Norma Lucille Partain Wade.  Was born September 11, 1923. She married twice.  She married Robert Brown.  She married Norman Levon Berry.  Norman was born Honey Grove, TX October 27, 1820.  Norman died December 1, 1984 Fort Smith, Arkansas.

 

  

       10.  Charlie Edwin2 Partain (John Thomas1) was born Spiro, Oklahoma April 10, 1898.  Charlie died March 1, 1977 Bokoshe, Oklahoma, at 78 years of age.  C.E. Partain died in Sparks Hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas, of congestive heart failure.  He had an enlarged heart that Dr. Lane said was probably congenital.  His wife, Beulah, and Frank Cantrell, an elder from Stigler, Oklahoma were at his side when he died.

 

       He married Beulah McCullar Partain Bokoshe, Oklahoma, March 26, 1922.  Beulah was born Cameron County, Oklahoma March 21, 1904.  Beulah is the daughter of William Andrew (Alonzo) McCullar and Minnie Delcina Herron McCullar.  At 18 years of age Beulah became the mother of Othal Edward Partain Stigler, Oklahome, January 10, 1923.  At 21 years of age Beulah became the mother of Ernest Wayne Partain Bokoshe, Oklahoma, February 26, 1926.  At 36 years of age Beulah became the mother of Lanny Eugene Partain Stigler, Oklahoma, January 13, 1941. 

 

       At 24 years of age Charlie became the father of Othal Edward Partain Stigler, Oklahome, January 10, 1923.  At 27 years of age Charlie became the father of Ernest Wayne Partain Bokoshe, Oklahoma, February 26, 1926.  At 42 years of age Charlie became the father of Lanny Eugene Partain Stigler, Oklahoma, January 13, 1941. 

 

       Charlie weighed 175 pounds; was 6-feet tall; had brown hair; had white skin; had blue eyes.

 

       Charlie Edwin Partain and Beulah McCullar Partain had the following children:

 

    +      37       i. Othal Edward3 Partain was born January 10, 1923.

    +      38      ii. Ernest Wayne Partain was born February 26, 1926.

       He married Ester Ware Partain.  Ester became the mother of John Thomas (Sonny) Partain February 9, 1934.  Ester became the mother of Roland (Pat) Partain 1940.  Ester became the mother of JoAnn Partain 1942.  Ester became the mother of Ellen Partain 1944.  Ester became the mother of Julia Partain 1946. 

 

       At 28 years of age Robert became the father of John Thomas (Sonny) Partain February 9, 1934.  At 34 years of age Robert became the father of Roland (Pat) Partain 1940.  At 36 years of age Robert became the father of JoAnn Partain 1942.  At 38 years of age Robert became the father of Ellen Partain 1944.  At 40 years of age Robert became the father of Julia Partain 1946.

 

       Robert Dow Partain and Ester Ware Partain had the following children:

       He married Geneva Pauline Lester Partain Spiro, Oklahoma, December 25, 1937.  Geneva was born Spiro, Oklahoma January 1, 1921.  At 18 years of age Geneva became the mother of Linda Ruth Partain Rialto, California, April 9, 1939.  At 20 years of age Geneva became the mother of Alvin Newt Partain Fontana, California, January 6, 1941.  At 22 years of age Geneva became the mother of Glenda Lee Partain Fontana, California, July 10, 1943.  At 37 years of age Geneva became the mother of Anita Carol Partain Shaw Day Ventura, California, July 10, 1958. 

 

       Glenn became the father of Linda Ruth Partain Rialto, California, April 9, 1939.  Glenn became the father of Alvin Newt Partain Fontana, California, January 6, 1941.  Glenn became the father of Glenda Lee Partain Fontana, California, July 10, 1943.  Glenn became the father of Anita Carol Partain Shaw Day Ventura, California, July 10, 1958.

       She married Frank Morley Evans Yuma, Arizona, 4/12/1941.  Frank was born San Bernardino, CA 3/4/1920.  At 24 years of age Frank became the father of Claudia Marie Evans Waters San Bernardino, California, 3/15/1944.  

 

       Flossie became the mother of Morley Wayne Evans 7/24/1942.  Flossie became the mother of Claudia Marie Evans Waters San Bernardino, California, 3/15/1944.

       At 23 years of age Norma became the mother of Robert Darrell Brown Stigler, OK, January 28, 1947.  At 30 years of age Norma became the mother of Judy Diane Wade Berry Bell, CA, September 13, 1953.

 

       Norma Lucille Partain  Wade and Robert (Buddy) Brown had the following child:

       At 24 years of age Othal became the father of Keith Lynn Partain Tulsa, Oklahoma, December 10, 1947.

 

       Othal Edward Partain and Ruth Hyder Partain had the following children:

       38.  Ernest Wayne3 Partain (Charlie Edwin2, John Thomas1) was born Bokoshe, Oklahoma February 26, 1926. 

 

       He married Beulah Faye Whisman Partain.  Beulah was born Muskogee, Oklahoma October 24, 1925.  Beulah is the daughter of Mr. Whisman and Mrs. Whisman.

 

       Ernest Wayne Partain and Beulah Faye Whisman Partain had the following children:

       39.  Lanny Eugene3 Partain (Charlie Edwin2, John Thomas1) was born Stigler, Oklahoma January 13, 1941. 

 

       He married Donna Faye Bolds Partain Pharr, Texas, March 9, 1962.  Donna was born Newcastle, Indiana June 4, 1942.  Donna is the daughter of Sherman Cleo Bolds and Faye Elberta Muma Bolds Elliott.  At 22 years of age Donna became the mother of Jana Rochelle Partain McAllen, Texas, October 21, 1964.  At 25 years of age Donna became the mother of Sheila Renee Partain McAllen, Texas, October 7, 1967. 

 

       At 23 years of age Lanny became the father of Jana Rochelle Partain McAllen, Texas, October 21, 1964.  At 26 years of age Lanny became the father of Sheila Renee Partain McAllen, Texas, October 7, 1967.  Occupations: Grew up on a truck farm; Preached in San Juan, Texas; Taught High School in Edinburg, Texas and McAllen, Texas; Worked for Sears in Corpus Christi, Texas; Longview, Texas; and Nederland, Texas; Worked for Unocal in Nederland, Texas and Rodeo, California; Administrator, Solano Christian Academy in Fairfield, California.

 

       Lanny weighed 170 pounds; was 6-feet 1-inches tall; had bloodtype A+; had Brown hair; had White skin; had Blue eyes at age 58 years.

 

       Lanny Eugene Partain and Donna Faye Bolds Partain had the following children:

       56.  Anita Carol Partain Shaw4 Day (Glenn Alvin3 Partain, John Alvin2, John Thomas1) was born Ventura, California July 10, 1958.  Anita died July 31, 1999 Cushing, Oklahoma, at 41 years of age.  Her body was interred August 4, 1999 Spiro, Oklahoma. 

 

       She married twice.  She married James Day.  James became the father of Michael James Day Cushing, Oklahoma, June 7, 1999.  She married Unknown Shaw.  Unknown became the father of Amy Shaw Cushing, Oklahoma, April 27, 1983.  Unknown became the father of Ashley Shaw Cushing, Oklahoma, June 30, 1987. 

 

       At 24 years of age Anita became the mother of Amy Shaw Cushing, Oklahoma, April 27, 1983.  At 28 years of age Anita became the mother of Ashley Shaw Cushing, Oklahoma, June 30, 1987.  At 40 years of age Anita became the mother of Michael James Day Cushing, Oklahoma, June 7, 1999.

 

       Anita Carol Partain Shaw Day and Unknown Shaw had the following children:

       He married Nancy Louise Smith Evans Rialto, California, 4/30/1965.  Nancy was born in Texas 3/1/1944.  At 23 years of age Nancy became the mother of Christopher WayneEvans Indio, California, 9/16/1967.  At 31 years of age Nancy became the mother of Matthew Ryan Evans Fontana, California, 10/6/1975.  At 37 years of age Nancy became the mother of Karly Kay Evans Fontana, California, 11/6/1981. 

 

       At 25 years of age Morley became the father of Christopher WayneEvans Indio, California, 9/16/1967.  At 33 years of age Morley became the father of Matthew Ryan Evans Fontana, California, 10/6/1975.  At 39 years of age Morley became the father of Karly Kay Evans Fontana, California, 11/6/1981.

       She married twice.  She married William McDonald.  William became the father of Abby McDonald San Bernardino, California.  She married Rupert Lee Murphy Tijuana, Mexico, 9/27/1958.  Rupert became the father of Donna Marie Murphy 3/26/1960.  Rupert became the father of Caroline (Diana) Lee Murphy Ontario, California, 7/29/1961.  Rupert became the father of Tina Marie Murphy Ontario, California, 9/11/1962.  Rupert became the father of Judy Sue Murphy Ontario, California, 1/29/1964. 

 

       Claudia became the mother of Abby McDonald San Bernardino, California.  At 16 years of age Claudia became the mother of Donna Marie Murphy 3/26/1960.  At 17 years of age Claudia became the mother of Caroline (Diana) Lee Murphy Ontario, California, 7/29/1961.  At 18 years of age Claudia became the mother of Tina Marie Murphy Ontario, California, 9/11/1962.  At 19 years of age Claudia became the mother of Judy Sue Murphy Ontario, California, 1/29/1964.
