| Jana was
born in McAllen, Texas, October 21, 1964. Donna and I were still
in college at Pan American University in Edinburg, Texas. Donna
broke out with Rubella (German Measles) while we were on tour in Mexico
with the Pan American Chorus. The doctor who diagnosed her condition
in Mexico City advised us that in his country that was grounds for legal
abortion. She was at the end of her first trimester. We never gave
it the first thought. We were blessed that she was born perfectly healthy
except for nerve damage that left her profoundly deaf. Many Rubella babies
are not so fortunate. Jana has grown into a very independent, self-reliant,
successful Instructor at the Texas State School for the Deaf.
She is a graduate of the National Technological Institute for the Deaf
(NTID) which is associated with Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT)
in Rochester, NY. |
